Ty running rigging upgrades

Post by Mike Wainfeld »

A few final tweaks to my running rigging-now the new UK sails are really showing their stuff. I made up a tackle for the outhaul but there was not enough room at the end of the boom to flatten the foot of the sail. I made it the new vang. Ronstan 20 triple block and a triple with becket and cam, so it's a six-part purchase and allows easier and more precise adjustment. For the new outhaul, a Ronstan 20 double block with becket. The block itself is lashed to the end boom fitiing with Pulse 1/16" line. Eliminating the shackle gave me a bit more room. The line goes from the becket thru the clew, back to the other sheave on the block, and forward to the cleat on the boom. I may replace the horn cleat with a cam cleat. This is just enough purchase to flatten the foot when it's windy. I didn"t have enough purchase with just a single block on the boom end. We've had some great sailin' weather here on LI and I'm having a great time with the boat.
As for the woodwork, well it ain't a friggin piece of furniture is it? Its a boat and you're supposed to sail it, not sit on it and paint it :)
Ha!
