Hello to small outboard enthusiasts!
Yes, there are still a few old Cruise 'n Carrys (new in the box) around...see the link below. From personal experience, I had good luck with the Model 6700 (2.7 hp) several years ago...unfortunately, when I sold my Point Jude, the motor went with it. others may have some negative things to say about it...one thing for certain, they were well made and seemed to perform when taken care of. Like all two cycle engines (the most easily abused engine on the planet), they need a caring owner who meticulously mixes fuel/oil, wipes her down at the end of the day with a fresh water wash, and a WD-40 preservative spray to keep her shiny and rust free. The Model 6600 is only 1.5 hp so I'm suggesting this only as a back-up or emergency motor to your high powered, super planing Honda or Yamaha...but at $239 US each, it's almost a steal...there are a couple hitches...HMC/Shindaiwa no longer makes it, so there's no warrenty or service. Some parts are available from mower shops that carry the Shindaiwa brand. Additionally, Erie Outdoors says they have most replacement parts from the fire engine sale in which they obtained the remaining motor inventory...they also have 'about 200 motors' left. I ordered one for my Walker Bay 8 last Monday and received it via UPS on Wednesday...new and in the box as advertised...if you're looking for a small back-up or emergency outboard, this could be it. Good Luck!

Cruise 'n Carry Model 6600 still available

Thanks for the Info!
I just came back from trying out a 2hp Johnson outboard, that some great people at my marina gave to me. (Long story - they just felt sorry for an old man rowing and crashing into a piling)It worked great, but I feel that it weighs too much for my folding Sea Scamp. I will order the Cruise n Carry next week. Thanks,Lou Ostendorff wrote: Hello to small outboard enthusiasts!
