I spent the great part of Saturday cruising Mount Hope Bay. Until Red Witch III came into my life, I had not sailed for eleven years. Yesterday the wife was more interested in doing things at home, gave me the nod to go to the boat, where I contemplated going out alone. Engine problems had kept us one the Taunton River since Memorial Day, but now that has been solved. As the tide drifted out, I made my decision to try it alone. I preppred the sails, ran my jackline, put on my harness, got the Sterns out, gallon jug of water, chart, and dropped the mooring pennant. Father's Day was good to me as I received a hand held vhf and gps unit, now I ccould play with both. Once I made it through the bridge, I knew everything would be okay, and my self confidence soared. I set my sails, all three, and sailed under the Braga Bridge into Mt. Hope Bay. Even in light airs, she moved gracefully, and I circumnavigated the bay checking out inlets, coves, etc. When the front came through, most of the sail fleet ran for cover. Red Witch just took it in stride. I am truly amazed at the comfort level in motion. I had not forgotten how to sail alone, safely. Secure, and alone at last.
I just can't wait until I get my teak helmsman seat too, Larry.
