I lost my low-profile cowl vent this weekend, when it went overboard and did not float. I wasn't too concerned, since it was pretty blistered (assumably from many years in the sun, but the P.O would know more about that than I.) Now I'm wondering what to replace it with. I searched the archives and found several references to the Nicro solar vents. Are those who've installed these generally happy with them? Has anyone installed a forward hatch instead? If so, what size did you choose? (seems like 12x18 would be about max) Did installing it seem to affect the structural integrity of the deck? Anything else that's been tried?
TIA,
Ed

replacing Ty forward cowl vent

Re: replacing Ty forward cowl vent
The vent may have been a 3" low profile Nicro Fico model 108836 vent. The deck plate may have been a #10863DW. They has been made for many years.

Re: thanks, I'll check for a replacement.
West Marine had full units (with deck plate), but I'll look some more to see if I can just find the cowl. It's 3" alright, so maybe it's the Nicro model # you mention. I'm guessing it's original 1979.
