To all those who have one, could you please give me an honest opinion on whether they are FULLY powerful for a CD25? I'm not just talking about pulling in and out of a slip. I want to know if they can take strong current, heavy seas, etc. I do some long trips and want an engine that will handle what is dealt out by Mother Nature. The 5HP seems great, but I have lingering concerns about the power, as I've previously had a 9.9 HP Mariner (2 stroke).

Eric,
I'm very pleased with mine. I've had to do quite a bit of motoring with mine due to the wind always seeming to be in the wrong direction or navigating on the ICW. I have noted a drop in speed from the usual 5.8 knots down to 4 knots or so when against the current or into strong winds though.

You mentioned strong curents and heavy seas. Personally, I don't think the 5 hp is enough. I have a six. I have seen on this message board, where someone has actually put a 15 hp Merc in the well. I would go at least a ten, for strong curents. But of course they weigh around 85 lbs to 95 lbs, verses 55 lbs. I take the engine out of the well after.Eric wrote: To all those who have one, could you please give me an honest opinion on whether they are FULLY powerful for a CD25?
