Burmuda Rally

Post by Jack and Jo Chamberlain »

Hey fellow Cape Dory sailors, FYI:
Jo and I are leaving today for a trek to Burmuda in the West Marine Burmuda Rally, our first venture into the Atlantic. Actually, our second -- we did a trial run last weekend in really strong winds and waves and didn't get far past the Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel. Most of us were rather uncomfortable, to say the least. One guy already dropped out, saying ocean cruising wasn't for him, leaving five of us. Maggie Rose, our trusty CD 33, is not going with us. We're crew aboard a (you'll pardon the expression) Pearson 424, whose captain is Hal Sutphen, experienced ocean cruiser, blue water author and one the rally organizers. We're leaving today for Hampton, Va., and nine boats are scheduled to leave there for Burmuda on Monday. Anyone who wants to follow our progress log on to www.carib1500.com for daily updates on boats' positions. Our boat is named Sea Duty. We'll be about five days at sea each way, with a week in Burmuda. Return ETA July 5 or 6. Stay tuned!

Jack and Jo,

I'll be in Bermuda in a couple weeks and will keep an eye out for Sea Duty (though it would have been nice to see a fellow CD33 in those parts). Assuming you'll be at the yacht club slips in Hamilton Harbor?

Best of luck on your trip,

Brian

Jack and Jo,

Merrie and I will be flying to Bermuda on June 29th to crew on Zen, a Morgan 43, for the return leg to Hamilton. We plan to sail Journey's End, our CD-36, to Bermuda next year. We won't have much "in-port" time but hopefully we will get a chance to meet each other.
