We are sailing our new to us 25D and are curious about the fairlead track on the deck next to the cabin. There is not much space for the jib between the shrouds and the main when using that track. What is the proper use of that track? Our jib seems to work best on the track on the cap rail outside of the shrouds. We are talking about our 100% jib. Thanks for the help.

Re: Sail trim
Don't know about the 25D, but I know on the 25 that fairlead is good for nothing except the smallest of storm jibs. Then it's a must.

I used my inner fairleads contiuously on my CD 26 for six years, with the one exception being after the storm warnings were lifted and leaving Block Island. Never had a problem. They assist in pointing closer to the wind. When tacking, I merely uncleat the leeward sheet, hold it on the winch drum, tack , pull the windward (now the leeward sheet) hard in tight on the winch drum, and loosen to trim. Worked like a charm. I still do it now for the yankee on my CD30. I used the toerail fairleads when I flew my 150 genny on my CD26, and now for the yankee respectively.

Hello Joe
I use the inner track with my 100% and my storm jib....The tracks are not placed properly for the storm jib, but that is all I have at this point. To use the inner track (with the 100%) I run the sheets between the forward lower shroud and the upper shroud on each side. Otherwise when going downwind the forward lowers interfer (sp) with the sheeting angle.....On my boat I dont believe you could even get close to proper sheeting angle using the genoa track on the toe rail....

Sail Trim : I'm with Bill
Joe:
Like Bill, I use the inner track when I fly my working jib, which is a 110%. I, too, run the jib sheet between the forward lower and the upper shroud.
I use the track and block on the rail when I fly my genoa, a 130%.
I expect you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much higher your boat points when you use the inner track.

Try This
Sheets coming in from outside between forward lower shroud and upper shroud as everyone has pointed out...use the inner tracks...adjust blocks on track to second lock position from the front of the track...happy sailing...
