Alberg's small-boat designs are my short list for a purchase. I would appreciate reading comparisons from Cape Dory folks on the Bristol/Sailstar Corinthian, Cape Dory Ty and Ty Senior, Alberg 22, CD22 and CD22D, South Cost 22, Sea Sprite 23, Pearson Ensign and Electra. I'm interested in contrasting sailing characteristics, comfort, overnighting, trailerability, and ease of set-up and teardown.

Re: Comparing Alberg Small-Boat Designs
Hi,
I owned a Ty and now it's an Alberg 22. I'm in the process of redo her. I can tell that Ty sail well, we beat a lot of biggers sailboats.
We redo the Ty and the gelcoat was so thick that we could sand it without problem.
And the Ty have a nice look. It's a little tiny inside, if you plan to daysailing only then you would not bother with that.
For the Alberg 22...The look is good but i can tell you IT'S NOT A CD, the final touch is not there. For example: The rails are mahogany, the coamings are fiberglass with white oak, there are no cockpits lockers.
So far the hull seem to be well built and for the deck i only find one stress crack around the hatch.
I'm now a bit concern with her sailing capacity because a few owners tolds me "It's not a racer but a cruiser" so maybe it's a tortoise.
But you could found easily an Alberg in Canada, you will pay a lot less then a CD, so you could redo her without putting a lot of money in the project.
You could not be wrong with an Alberg's design, they look all nice, it's the factory owner that you must be concern.
Good luck in your search
Marc

Re: Comparing Alberg Small-Boat Designs
i have my alberg 22 with diesel for sale.. but i can tell you, mike some of the canadian 22's were finished to a higher standard than others.. i note the other posters comment in regards to finishing.. i looked over quite a few before my purchase.. true only the one cockpit locker... but the interior two quarter berths are very useful.. the hull and decks are solid glass ,i bolted on stanchion bases of a better quality than i have on my present cd 33 by the way and there is very little flexing... i sailed with my little friend over to the bahamas and she did very well... the yanmar was terrific . i trailed the boat to florida several times without any problems... never did see any other alberg 22's zapping around the washington beltway !! john ..cd33 no 6 'serenus'
