midwestern non sailor purchased and refinishing Dory10. Q1 = wood trim (mahogony according to local high school shop teacher)sanded down - how to finish? Q2 = how does one "dock" the vessel? pulling it up on shore is not an option at the northern minn lake where it will reside. should it be left bouyed in the shallows or better to get it out of the water on a lift of some sort? have read that there are some safety concerns relative to this model. any thoughts, suggestions or comments isare welcome. thanks jm

Re: Dory 10 refinish(ed)
Cherry mahagony marine filler satain followed by about 6 coats of varnish. Had # 1040 for 10 years. Fun shallow water boat. Terrible upwind and rolls and and capsize downwind. Small boat journal did a write up on one years ago and they managed to capsize the boat ona run.Actually I prefered to row that boat. The earlier mahogony finished boats had insufficient floatation. and would barely stay afloat swamped.........about 85% summerged. Donsequence of bguilding a 10 footer as heavy as a 30 footer. The CD 10 weighs 175 pounds which is a staggering #. The fellow who sold me mine had a dicey experience involving a capsize and ended up buying one of ht elater boats....which I have never seen another of....with a full liner and the floatation molded into the flooring unter all three seats. Also the later ones were teak finish.
