My Yanmar YSB-8 has a square shaped plug at the top of the engine which is supposed to remove like a nut to get to the pencil zinc. I am trying to remove this cap to see if the zinc needs to be replaced, but I can't get the cap to budge. I've tried wd-40 to loosen it without success? What should I try next?

First, more WD-40 and more time. Try tapping on the wrench with a mallet. If that doesn't do it, maybe a little heat. If I remember correctly, there isn't much around the zinc that would be adversely affected by a torch, other than the paint and the WD-40. A little heat, try the wrench, a little more heat. You want to heat the casing around the plug, not the plug itself (so that the case expands more than the plug).
When you do get it off, check to make sure that the copper washer on the plug is still there and in good shape. The fact that you are having problems suggests it may not be there.
