Dear Cape Dory Folks:
I am considering purchasing a CD22D. Love Alberg overhangs and (somewhat) full keels. What opinions, experiences and tips do Cape Dory people have concerning trailering the CD22D, including ramping, set-up and knock-down? Help me avoid launching my Jimmy in addition to the boat.
Regards,
Mike

Re: CD22D Trailerabilty
Mike:
Ten years ago I modified an Eazyloader tandem trailer for a CD22 I had purchased and trailed it home to Colorado. It trails very well. Also, I mounted the full size spare wheel on a spindle up near the trailer tongue to act as the launch dolly when the jack was retracted. It was non-steerable, so backed straight where you aimed it. A heavy chain was shackled between the front of the truck and the trailer to launch. I raised the mast from the bow with the boom as a gin pole. A roller extension from the trailer supported the mast in its forward rest position. Also, I converted the trailer brakes to four-wheel electric. I trailed it to Lake Mead, Nevada and routinely over Colorado's high passes. Recently the new owner trailed it to Florida and return.
Happy trailering,
Carl
