"Whoa!" is me

Post by Ed Haley »

Just got word that the Oswego Canal will be closed for another week prohibiting me from continuing to my home port - Kingston Ontario on Lake Ontario. High water is still the problem in the watershed producing currents in the waterway that boats would find treacherous, according to the canal spokesperson. This would be especially troublesome to sailboats. It's already been 10 days of not being able to move and now another week will mean three weekends of missed sailing. On the plus side, I'm getting a lot of work done doing thises and thats.

It's still raining and I need to mow the beard at the waterline ... LOL. Dandelions are sprouting on deck hiding the stress cracks that I wanted to treat. There is algae beginning on the underside of the mast and there's a real crow's nest on top of the mast which is lying across the boat. A muskrat has produced a litter in my exhaust system. Ah, nature! heh, heh. Guess it could be worse. At least I'm only 6 miles from home.

Have a nice Memorial Weekend all you sailors who can hoist the sails. I'll be thinking of you for a week or two, or three!

Sure, sailing would be better (than just about anything), but keep your chin up. You're on your boat--close to home--catching up on boat work. It beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

It looks like a rainy holiday weekend here in the almost sunny almost South. We'll think about you.

Every best wish,

Say Ed,
I expect at least one ballad out of this akin to all those written back in the mid 1800s about the Erie Canal. Steven Foster type stuff. I've read some of your "poems" in the past so I know you're up to writing a song about your experience. Seems you sure have the time to do it. Call it "Lock 21 on the Erie Canal" HA!
