cutless bearing replacement

Post by Al Smith »

Well, you people did it again. I had asked you about a mysterious rumble that appeared on Elysium, our CD 33, and the majority of you said "cutless bearing" but also check the alignment of the engine. Well, right on both counts. The engine was really far out of alignment and the bearing had worn. It sounded fine as I motored over to our slip and tied her up for the season. One thing, though, the yard had a difficult time aligning the shaft because they couldn't loosen one engine mount bolt. They did a tempory jog until my mechanic can do it . One problem, they claim is that the shaft is so short (18") that there can be an alignment problem but you will not see it until you measure it. And it is SO easy to get back there to measure!!!

But she's in and hope to see fellow CD's on the Chesapeake Bay.
