Insurance for CD31

Post by Michael Soloway »

Any recommendations on obtaining reliable and economical insurance for a CD31? My agency is requesting a survey on a boat that just had a survey last year and has only improvements since then. I guess that I would like to hear about positive insurance arrangements - names and numbers would be great.

Thanks,

Last year when we acquired on CD 30 I insured with BoatUS. This year I shopped it with the company that handles by homeowners, Alfa. While Alfa was cheaper, they encouraged me to keep the BoatUS policy as it offered coverages that they don't and couldn't. While BoatUS insisted on some work the surveyor said was not critical at purchase(standing rigging), I planned to do that anyway. No claims, so no experience there.
email me with a fax # and I'll send you the declarations page.

I had a Tartan 30 in Salem Harbor for about 8 years, and kept her insured by Boat US. About 5 years ago, we had a big nor'easter that caused quite a few boats to break loose, and sank almost 20. Tamarijn broke loose, and while she didn't sink she was totaled. Boat US repaid my full (used boat) purchase price within 3 weeks. No hassles; no problems, and done with class.

I just bought Intrepid 28 #3, and hope to have her back in good shape within a month - she'll be covered by Boat US when we head out from Hingham. Nice boat, and a great board here!

In my case, it was the fuel lines as well as double clamping of hoses. But, when I called them to update my insurance due to a new engine installation, I had no problem in getting higher insurance without a survey.
Great folks to work with.

BoatUS is Super

I can corroborate all the recommendations for BoatUS. I once had a repair job about 8 years ago paid for by BoatUS after another boat rammed my teakwork on the port side. My estimate of $1200 was sent in to BoatUS and I received a check for $1400 4 days later. They sent me $200 more than the estimate to allow for the rising price of teak.

I have had BoatUS insurance on my boats since then.

Have Boat US on my boat & can only say their pricing is fair. Hope it's like life insurance, you buy it but hope to not use it.
