Sine Qua Non got wet today!
SQN got dunked today after a postponement of one day due to heavy winds yesterday. She got in late because it was low tide most of the day and they couldn't step the mast today. But we checked the seacocks and the shaft and everything is tight as a drum. No leaks after I serviced them. They put her out on her mooring with the other boats around her. She's happy as a clam out there. If they step the mast tomorrow I'll see if I can bend on the sails and make final adjustments Saturday afternoon. With any luck, first sail of the season will be Sunday! I played hooky from work yesterday and today in anticipation of launching. My boss in my shaving mirror was understanding THIS time! Suddenly a guy sleeping outside a movie theatre for 2 days so he can see the first showing of this new Star Wars movie doesn't seem so crazy. Different strokes for different folks!

Funny how the world kind of evens out, potholes in the road of life seem to bother less, and the sun even feels warmer once the boat is dunked! Congrats..and here is hoping for a good season for you and SQN Warren.
We got wet last weekend, and have the boat ready to sail except to tension the rig. I let her sit for a week to allow her hull to acclimate to the water first..ran out of time too, heh. So first thing Saturday morning, we'll be doing the Loos Tension Gauge Two-Step, then go out for the night.
Enjoy the new sails too!

Re: Sine Qua Non got wet today!
"Cricket" got dunked to day too. My wife took the afternoon off to do some teak work and the yard asked if they could put the boat in the water. Becky held on tight as "Cricket" was lifted off the trailer, put in a sling, and placed in Salem harbor. Unfortunately, "Cricket" was not completely watertight... a missing nut on the water strainer so a seacock was closed while everyone scrambled around looking for the missing part!Warren Kaplan wrote: SQN got dunked today...
I had to hear about all of this over the phone when she got back from the yard. Since I'm still learning a lot about the boat, we're having the yard step the mast and tune the rigging... this time.
We won't be able to get to the boat till Saturday... and although the morning looks crappy, we're hoping for some sun in the afternoon to take her for our first sail!!!
We're very excited!

Hold your tongue, nave!
The "S" word has been banished, remember?? (it's worked too!)
However, rumors have it that there is still snow and ice on the north facing hills on the outer islands. We will be out there Saturday with any luck.
Cheers,
Larry

Sounds like a wonderful idea. Visited SQN at the dock at Oyster Bay Marine Center last night after they had stepped the mast. I was (am) hoping to bend on the new mainsail and year old genny today but the way its pouring and gusting out there (7:55AM) I think I'd have to slip into my foulies and clip into the new cockpit padeyes with tether and harness just to stay aboard! Perhaps conditions will moderate this afternoon or at least by tomorrow. Then I have to shake down the new mainsail! But perhaps by next week we can join up!

Re: Sine Qua Non got wet today!
Bob,
As the water in Wayland is a bit thin for such a fine cruising boat, I wonder, will Cricket will be spending the summer in Salem? If so, the crew & I look forward to Cricket's presence in the neighborhood.
Happy Sailing,

Good to hear from you again. How have you been and how is Alphee? I see that you're loading the artillery aboard and if I am lucky enough to voyage to Stonington, I'll make sure that I hail you on the VHF and ask permission to approach. I worked too hard on Sine Qua Non this spring to have her blown out of the water...and by a sister ship no less!

Nice to meet you! Actually... I rented a mooring with Mid-Harbor Marine for the season, but I'm splitting the season with a friend. He gets June, July, August... and I get May, Sept., Oct.
Most of the summer Cricket will be up in Casco Bay, Maine. The hailing port on the transom says "Bustins Island, ME".
Right now, she's in Salem Harbor though, eagerly awaiting a little engine work from Dion's. We're hoping that the work gets done this week so we can sail/motor her up to Bustins Memorial Day weekend.
Becky and I checked out your website... you have a beautiful boat. The teakwork looks spectacular. Becky has been very busy working on that.. we used "Starbrite" this season, but it's obvious to us that the previous owners didn't take good care of the teak.
