New propeller finally

Post by Michael Soloway »

Thought I would leave the final results of my propeller drama. I found New England Propellers in Mass. They were very helpful and friendly - spent a lot of time with me on the telephone - had the best inventory that I found anywhere and shipped it to me overnight at no extra charge. Didn't charge extra to calibrate and bring it up to Stage I. Also they have facilitites to modify the pitch next year if necessary. Michigan Wheel were incredible. They have an analysis that they offer online. They phoned me with results and availablility for discussion within 48 hours and were sincere and supportive. In the end I used a 13/12 Sailor model NOT the machine pitch model. Came with new mounting nuts and a zinc.

both times i had to remove my prop shaft, NE propellor made the new shaft, cleaned etc all the parts, made the prop look like new, were good to deal with and had reasonable prices - they have a small facility in boston and a larger one in plymouth - i also highly recommend them

Just a quick question - I read the earlier discussion - was the prop you ended up installing two or three bladed?

3 blades. Incidentally, I have the original 2 bladed 13/13 that came with my CD31 in 1984 if anyone is interested - it is very usable. I am installing this weekend - launching next week.

Thanks for responding. Please let us know how your sea trials go with the new prop. I'm thinking about those long summer motoring stretches on the Chesapeake under autohelm. I little more push from the M25 would be welcome.

Hello everyone! I just installed a Campbell Sailer, 3 blade, 13x9 for my CD 28 with an MD7A engine. I just launched and motored into a steady 20K headwind for 2.5 hours and was very pleased with its performance. I obtained it from West By North, Inc. in Vancouver. Their adds can be found in any Cruising World or Ocean Navigator. They were very good about matching to my engine and displacement. I went from a 14x14, and could never get the rpms out of the engine that I felt I should have. No problem now. The engine runs easily in the desired range on the power curve with some to spare. I would highly recommend that you check them out.
