Need East Coast Association

After reading this message board for the first time, it
is obvious that an East Coast CD Association should be successful. Has
anyone the time to put it together?? Am owner of CD 28 Power (FB)
with 275 gas - #124 - out of Rockland, Maine. I would help !!

There is a Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Assoc. now in existence. There are about 50 members, most around Md., Va., and N.J. If you would like some info let me know and I'll fill you in.

Yes, but the CDSOA only accepts sailboat owners. Robert owns a powerboat, so that won't help. The other two CD groups - LMCDOA and CCDO - are for both sail and power Cape Dorys, but are not local to the East Coast.

The way CCDO got started was to decree a rendezvous, publicise it, and see who showed up. If there were enough Cape Dorys in the San Francisco area to make a group work, it ought to be easy on the East Coast.

If you decide on a date several months away, it should be possible to get notices in regional boating monthlies. Other ways to publicise a gathering are to post here and on the rec.boats and rec.boats.cruising groups, put fliers on bulletin boards at local marine stores, and leave one on any Cape Dory you see in a marina. In determining location, consideration should be given to possible drive-in guests who may be too far to boat in.

Any group that wants to try getting started can piggyback on our newsletter until they get big enough to have one of their own (or until the work or postage become too large).

Walt Bilofsky wrote: Let's see how many people respond to this request on your board, then decide if we should persue a new association. It is my understanding that there is no CD association (broadbase) on the East Coast.
Also, at the momment, I have very little time to devote since I've got to get the Dory ready for the water. If the response is good we should move ahead even if we ride on Walt's coattails for a bit.
I appreciate the interest Walt.
Thanks.

I'll be g;ad to participate in an East Coast Association. We have been owners of a 28 foot fly-bridge cruiser with a 200 hp Volvo for the past five years.

An East Coast CD association is a good idea since there are many CD's in the area. I would be happy to help out electronically or otherwise when there is enough interst. What should we do next?

Sounds like a grand idea and have been looking for one for several years. One group was rumored to have started but haven't heard anything else. Understand they had an in the water raft up/rallye to draft their charter. However, they limited participation to boats attending and in the water. Not an approach I would recommend. They no longer have an internet presence for communications or and don't respond to e-mail.

Would be more than happy to help in any capacity. Including putting a WEB homepage together and maintaining it.

Won't be surprised that there will be many other responses.

I'm a two boat plus two tender family:

a Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender -- just completed a major overhaul -- stem to stern. Got to know every nook and cranny. Can't wait to get her back in the water. She is a perfect boat for the Chesapeake Bay.

and a Morgan OI 37 Ketch which is on the hard and undergoing a major overhaul. Would like to launch her in the summer of '98.

But I will still keep my Cape Dory forever!!!

Robert,
I've expressed interested in joining a New England Cape Dory Association to a posting on this site (northeast association) (?).
I passed on a note that interest was also being expressed through "NEED EAST COAST ASSOCIATION".
I also suggested:
1.) Due to the volume of info through their web site, I think, with their permission, we could affiliate w/ the CCDO.
2.) As a testimony to the designer, I would like to suggest the 'Association' membership be open to owners of all C. Alberg designed boats.
Maybe the two groups could start a collective organization (or maybe not, a sailboat in Maine would have to pack more than a lunch to get to a flaot-in in Maryland.)
My boat, CD30K-1977, is currently located in New London, CT.

My husband and I are new owners of a Capy Dory 30K and are very interested in information about the East Coast Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association. Thanks! We sail out of Annapolis.
