For all competitive Captains,
I posted these a while ago and didn't get many comments, have you all forgotten???? What do ya think????
Racing Rules:
1. Each yacht must start from Bartlett reef in Long Island Sound on or about August 4th, 2002 and finish at or near Latimer's Reef in Fisher's Island Sound in the same year!
2. All vessels are requested to run their engines at least one hour each day - not for propulsion.
3. If the weather is poor at the intended start time, the start will be delayed until the weather is good(or at least resonable).
4. All vessels will maintain 24 hour VHF and visual watch.
5. All vessels will have a 360 degree masthead light(doesn't have to work!).
6. All competitors to be at the Watch Hill Inn at 1830 hours 8/4/02 for customs and immigration clearances whether they have finished the race or not! !(This rule IS mandatory!!!) Arrive in Watch Hill Harbor aboard your vessel or walk-ins/swim-ins are acceptable! Grog will be served.
7. The finish line will be clearly marked, it is an invisible line running due North from Latimers Reef lighthouse in Fisher's Island Sound!
8. Radio schedules are encouraged, but not compulsory. We would like to know where the hell ya are!
9. Each yacht must float at least 4" below her designed LWL. ADD weight if you do not meet this requirement.(Captain Commanding s/v Evening Light take note!)
10. Each yacht must carry Spirituous liquor to the Race Committee
Chairmans satisfaction. The Race Committee Chair may remove samples of said Spirits from each vessel for analysis at his leisure.(List of acceptable spirits is available on demand!)Don't even think of Leaf Fra Milks(a German wine I'm told - Captain Heintz???), or ripple type spirits!!!
Extra time will be allowed for any vessel that displays the following equipment or has on board:
1. A Rototiller or a Lawn Tractor.
2. A Pitchfork serving as mizzen boom instead of original
3. At least six items of laundry drying from lifelines, on both Port and Stb'd sides, must include bra & bikini items!
4. Towing a rigid or inflatable dink with several cases of beer for ballast(Captain Commanding Macht Nichts take note!)(and maybe Realization!).
5. Free-ranging chickens on deck, must be clearly visible from 100 yards(NO roosters!)
The use of light weather sails or drifter/reachers is to be
discouraged, motoring is required if wind speed drops below 10 knots.
Penalties will be incurred on yachts with any of the following:
1. Rod rigging(including new rod bobstays!)
2. Bloopers
3. Matching foul weather gear.
4. Rating certificates
5. Sails LESS than 2 weeks old!
6. Trouble free refrigeration systems or working Alcohol Stoves!
7. Crew equipped with Sperry Topsiders or similar footwear!
8. Vessels equipped with new fold up anchors with variable pitch flukes(Captain Commanding Sine Qua Non please take note!)
9. Vessels with more than 2 GPS receivers aboard, even if only one works!
An extra allowance will be given to yachts carrying two or more of the
following:
Iron, ironing board.
Washing Machine
Potted plants or POT plants(NOT recommended by DEA or US Coast Guard - WHAT??, do ya wants to go to prison???). But, then again, some Captains will do ANYTHING to win a race!
Goose barnacles exceeding 2" in length on underwater surfaces of the hull.
More than 2 pairs of pajamas per crewmember.
Children (Captain Goldsmith please take note!)
Hand-me-down charts or Zeroxed charts more than 15 years old.
Any vessel underway with mooring mushroom anchor still attached to the bits.(Captain Commanding s/v Bob, please take note!)This may be how you and your crew can win the first ever race aboard Bob(Hey, by the way, what kind of name is that anyway for a vessel????)
Smaller Cape Dorys may start up to three (3) days early, if they wish, but they WILL miss the PIG roast!
OK, so there they are - direct from the RACE Committee Chairman. Any
