Dory Hull #

Post by Capt.Jack »

Let me put this question out to all of you. I hope to God someone can help. We have restored a Cape Dory Back to "Show Room" condition, (Or atleast it will be after we paint the outside of it.) the Black Oval Plack that was on the back of it seems to have been missed placed. Everyone is looking every where for it. I can get the name. ( I have the location ) of where this Boat was sold. Is there a way I can get information on the true Hull number of this Boat, incase ( and I fear) we never find the origonal plack. It was Sold in 69-70. I don't know if Spartan, or RobinHood Boat Builders can,but I'm going to check with them(hopefully I'll be put in touch with the right person) and see if they can help. Can anyone help me out here? I think this Dory had a VERY low #. I just can't prove it yet. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, and fairwinds to all, J-

I believe you will find the hull # on the transom in the upper right corner. THat's what matters, not the plaque

Unfortuantely, manufacturers didn't start including the HIN on a vessel's stern until 1972. So it may be difficult to determine the hull number on a boat built before that time. If the builder's plate that should be located on the companionway arch is also missing, then it may be near impossible. You may have to contact the previous owner. If it only had one previous owner, Robinhood may have a record of it based on the name of the owners and/or the boats original name. I'd start with the previous owner.

I probabley should have clerified this in the first place. The Boat is an origonal CD10. There is no transom. But thanks anyway. Any other Ideas? This thing is in perfist condition now, with a new larger sail, and Boy can it move. It would be great to top it off with the origonal Hull#. I only replaced the Bench seats. The trim and the Bottom of the rear Bench are all origonal. Is there a spot on the Boat I should be looking at??? J-

Jack,

On at least some of the 14s, there is a plaque inside the transom on the port side with the serial number stamped into it. I think a lot of 10s were manufactured without any hull serial number marked on them.

I have hull #413 with a rectangular plaque on the inside of the transom, rather than an oval plaque, and no number any where else
that I have seen.
