Great Website!

Post by Craig Youse »

I just ran across your (cape dory)website and message board today.
Wow! What a class act! I ran out of time before I ran out of interesting things to read. I'll be back for sure.

The Cape Dories all look like great boats.
Does anyone know if Newport Shipyards still owns the Cape Dory name?

I started a website called The Perfect Pocket Yacht about 4 months ago. We have several 'pocket yacht' reviews and several articles and stories about sailing in small sailboats.

Does anyone know of any owner's reviews that have been written on Cape Dories? Or of any stories about voyages on Cape Dories of 29' or less?

If not, would any of you guys be willing to write one?

I'd like to swap links with this (cape dory) site and add a link to this message board on the Perfect Pocket Yacht Website. Can anyone tell me who to contact about this?

I don't know enough about Cape Dories to say if they would qualify as the "perfect" pocket yacht or not, but they sure seem like great ones!

What would a new 22' or 25' CD go for these days?

Are you familiar with John Vigor's "20 Small Boats That will take You Anywhere"? He reviews (and formerly owned) a Cape Dory 25D. I am sure there are copyright issues, but you might get permission to use it.

Craig:
You might want to try Armond Perretta's site detailing some of his voyages aboard his CD-28.

Craig,
Do a search on this site under Cape Dory 26. You'll find a lot of stuff here, but one thread deals with a trip that one owner made to Bermuda on his CD26. It was a few years ago, before I owned my CD26, and I'm sorry to say that I don't remember his name, but if you put in a search under, say, Cape Dory 26 and Bermuda, you should be able to find it. It is an interesting article.
You also need to understand that the regular CD25 is a little bit different from the other CDs, and for some reason sells for a lower price. If you keep your eye on this site, or look down the recent posts you should find plenty of CDs for sale.

Craig,
I was feeling rather guilty for not having better info to give you in my post above, so I did the search myself. If you go to the "view older messages" section above, and go to 1999, page down through the posts and you will come to one posted by John Churchill. I believe it is called "Cape Dory 26 to Bermuda". That is where the thread is located, and there are a lot of responses to it. After I cross the Atlantic in my CD26 I'll write an article for you to read as well!!! I wouldn't hold my breath, though. I will concentrate on crossing Lake Erie first.

Thanks Peter,

I have received two e-mails from John since my posting. He gave me permission to use his article, but he didn't have a copy of it himself. Your suggestion therefore is of great use to me.

By the way, John now owns a 28' Bristol Channel Cutter. In 10 days, he will be sailing it to Ireland.

I'd still love to get may hands on a Cape Dory review for my readers. You wouldn't even have to cross lake Erie to write a review :-)

P.S. I have already added a link to this messageboard on my site.
