My CD has an unusual odor. Seems to be strongest in the head, but is not sewage-like, rather more like decomposing rubber. Any suggestions as to possible sources, and especially cures, would be much appreciated.

Re: Unusual Odor
Bill,
Where do you get your flushing water from? If it is laden with little animals, then they may be dying in your toilet in the flushing ring around the top of the bowl. Solution? Use fresh water rather than sea water to flush. Or, at least at the end of a weekend, flush once with fresh water to send the last of them into the holding tank.
Keep on sailing,

Re: Unusual Odor
If your hoses and/or y-valves are in bad shape you might be getting the odor you're describing. We had our head system refitted and removed the old y-yalves and are now "enjoying" a much cleaner smelling boat.

Re: Unusual Odor
You can also get an odor from oil in the bilge. The engine drips oil which ends up in the bilge and which in time smells like an oil drilling field. Since there is an air path to the head via the shower drain you often smell it there.
