Re-bedding ports

Re-bedding ports
Please a little help. I know this subject has been discussed, but I want to ask again for some expert advice. I need to stop a leak around one on my Sparten Ports. My plan is to remove the outside ring and clean. Then with 3M-101 rebed. Has anyone a best practice? I think; I unscrew the ring from the inside and pry the outside off? I do not think I will need to take the entire port out? . Ron Legan, "Kestrel", CD 330, lying Bainbridge Island, WA.

You can do it the easy way-or the hard way!! The easy way would be to purchase a tube of window sealer made by Permatex at your local auto store, and apply a very thin seal around the offending port. The stuff really works, and will last years! And, it takes about five minutes of work and about five bucks.
Have used this stuff on a Catalina 25-and others have done the same saving lots of time (and money)!

Ron:
The Permatex Sealant is called Windshield and Glass Sealer Part No. 65A. If it doesn't make a pretty seal, try spraying a little WD40 on it after you put it on. Really spreads out beautfully as well as cleaning up anything extra.
I actually rebuilt a window in the rain with this stuff. That is how good it works!
