Jim,

Get several bids if you are thinking about this seriously. There are many companies that haul boats and their prices and quality are all over the lot. I have provided a link to an association of independent boat transporters below.

I used Triton Yachts in Oriental, NC to haul Parfait from Orange Beach, AL to NC; they did a fine job. At least one 36 has been hauled coast to coast recently. Check out Steve Alarcon's comments on that; it was not a pleasant experience.

A search on "yacht transportation" will get you some more ideas.

Good luck!

Ken

I had contacted Brownell in Mattapoisett when I was thinking of buying a CD 28 in Florida. They quoted me a price of $2500
so that could give you a good guest-a-met. I have used them locally and found them to be efficient.

I had my small boat trucked from Western Montana to Ohio with these guys and they did a fine, professional job.

Jim, whatever you do make sure you get a number of quotes. Last summer I was considering buying a Cape Dory 25D and having it shipped from Rhode Island to Lake Erie in Ohio. I went to the internet and searched on Yahoo under Boat transporting and came up with many company websites. I also checked in some of the sailing magazines (Sail and Sailing) and made some phone calls. The variation in quotes was incredible, ranging from $3700 down to $1100. One fellow lowered his quote by about $400 - 500 when I told him that another company had given me a lower quote than his. Fortunately for me I located the CD26 that I now own right in the storage lot of the marina I had my little Hunter in and didn't have to worry about transporting anything. But, it sure taught me a lesson about getting quotes. Good luck and fair winds.

The former owner had "my" CD 28 hauled from Vermont to Long Beach, CA. in l998 with a price tag of $7000.00

The trucker did a lousy job, as the owner had to "bristol" the mast, and had to have some of the teak rail replaced.

I had the the boat hauled from Long Beach CA to Anacortes by Dudley Marine, and it was in perfect condition when I got it.($2000.00)

The haulers are only one thing you have to worry about! You need to have your boat professionally decommissioned with lots of pictures (around a thousand dollars) at the start of the journey before putting it on a flat bed to haul it to your home port!!
