CAPE DORYS ARE UNDOUBTABLY BEAUTIFUL & WONDERFUL SAILING VESSELS
IT AMAZES ME THAT A CD 30 WOULD SELL FOR $30,000 LOOK UP THE PRICES OF THE BRONZE AND WINCHES ALONE
MAYBE WE CAPE DORY OWNERS SHOULD RAISE THE BAR ON THEIR WORTH.
COST AFTER ALL IS BASED ON SELLING PRICES IE BUC NET.
CAPE DORYS ARE SPECIAL BOATS MAYBE THEY SHOULD BE PRICED THAT WAY.

Re: PRICES OF CAPEDORYS
Don, You are absolutely right regarding Cape Dorys being special. I think that is already "in" the price as most of our boats are twenty years old and many older. The biggest factor though, is the TLC that has been given to a particular boat. Some have magnificent bright work and others don't. This is way BUC NET has such wide ranges for Cape Dory values. Unfortunatly, being a Cape Dory doesn't always mean that the owner(s) have maintained her to level that she deserves. Having just gone through the shopping (and buying!) cycle of my fifth Cape Dory, I can attest that there are more than two CD28s that have been woefully abused. Of course, some of those boats could be brought back to Cape Dory excellence by the right person with the time, money and desire to do so.

Re: PRICES OF CAPEDORYS
I was amazed at the price difference in a CD 30 and a CD33. The 33's are around 30K more for the additional 3 feet. I wish I had the extra three feet but I am quite happy with my 30 cutter. Besides, it was all I could afford. 60K still seems like a pretty hefty price for a 33 footer.michael phillips wrote: Don, You are absolutely right regarding Cape Dorys being special. Re: PRICES OF CAPEDORYS
Agreed. So for a 1979 CD30 in very tidy original condition, new sails, and 8 sail wardrobe, Volvo 18hp engine ( 1100 hours ), Monitor self steering, radar, GPS, VHF, new ICOM 710 SSB and ATU, new dinghy, heater, gas oven, autopilot, new sail covers, liferaft in new condition, new running rigging, fully rewired, windlass, sounder, log, water generator, Edson wheel steering and loads more, with lots of spares....would US$32,000 be an unreasonable price?? The yacht is in New Zealand, but hey, alot of boat for $75K kiwi dollars. What do you think. I have spent the morning being told by a US expat working in NZ, that the boat is overpriced!!!

Murray,
Having seen Dayspring I think the asking price is quite reasonable.

Does That Price Include a Visa?
Murray,
Shelley and I will be right down. How long do you think we could stay as liveaboards before they deported us?
We continue to talk about our trip in Oct. of '98 and we wonder when we will get back for a fuller immersion. Never got further south than Timaru and only spent two weeks on both islands, but it was wonderful!
Keep on sailing,
