walker bay tenders

Post by bobm »

Does anyone have a walker bay...Im looking to buy a tender and am considering the 10' w/sailing rig...the price is about 900 bucks for everything and this will be for the Chesepeake gunkholing only...when I sail to Maine Ill just use my parents avon off their boat and wont have to tow anything...I have a 3 and a 5 yr old and I think they would have lots of fun in it...
Does anyone on the board have one...and if so how do you like it ANd though my wife loves offshore sailing, and can cook and clean down below in any sea, she has never rowed a boat!

Hey Bob: I bought a WB-12 this last winter and it hasn't seen a drop of water yet. The rig is well made and engineered. The only small drawback I see thus far is that the sailing kit includes an air bladder that is inflated and placed somewhat under the middle seat (does take up some room up front though). Otherwise though, I am very satisfied thus far. Fun facts: the WB-10 currently holds the world record for the largest injection mold. The mold weighs as much as a 727!

Let me know if you get one!

Your plan sounds wonderful. The kids will have a blast, expecially when they get old enough to solo!

I have a Walker Bay8, but no sailing rig. It is used as a tender for the mooring. It rows reasonably well although it tends to 'wander' a bit. One nice feature is the second set of thole pin holes up forward. If there are two people in the boat, the person rowing can sit on the forward thwart to balance the boat. She's been in use for three years and is virtually no maintainance. The boat is light. I can single handedly launch and recover from a dock even at low tide.

The mooring is on the Bohemia River at the top of the Chesapeake Bay off of the Elk River.

Good luck,
