CD-25 water leak
The sum of the wonderful advice I got below leaves me with one question still. Maybe someone will know...
Does the rudder-tube open up anywhere between the outer hull and the cockpit locker such that water can run into the bilge? I have looked back there, which is a bit hard to do, and can't tell if that is possible with this design.
p.s. THANKS for the other ideas. I tried all that were applicable today and they unfortunately were not the problems. I filled the bilge with water once the boat was pulled and it held it solid. So I search on!

Re: CD-25 water leak
Mike, I believe there is supposed to be a fiberglass tube that runs the entire distance of the rudder shaft. It is not uncommon on a CD for water to come into the cockpit from the rudder shaft. If you have a leak or discontinuity in this tube, that might offer an explanation. Alternatively, have you examined the engine well carefully at the sharp angles? A break could seep at rest and collect water underway. If you've checked all through hulls, I'm drawing a blank beyond this. Good luck.

Re: CD-25 water leak
Dear Mike: Check the teak access plate in the engine well. When exceeding hull speed or in heavy seas, the water level will often rise to this level. The access plate is not water tight and the briny will flow right in. I solved this problem by using silicone caulking to create a tight seal. The bilge has been bone dry ever since. Good luck. BA

Re: CD-25 water leak
This is what I was going to say. If it's not leaking OUT of the bilge, that says to me the leak is probably above the level of the bilge, and might even be above the waterline (a bit) so that water only comes in when you are underweigh. I still suspect the engine well. Just seems to be the weak link.

Re: CD-25 water leak
I would suggest a hairline crack in one of the thru hulls for cockpit scuppers or from a depth/speed sensor. Sometimes people remove them but don't remove the transducer which is usually plastic and does get brittle with age and the gaskets dry out/fail

is it possible to fill the engine well with water while the boat is hauled to see if it leaks into the bilge?
if the engine well is the problem, would you see water in it when the boat is in the water or are we all thinking the water passes through the engine well and into the bilge without accumulating in the engine well?
pesky problem that i hope you can solve

Re: CD-25 water leak
Did you shut all the seacocks at the same time? It is possible that you have a hose with a crack somewhere in the middle. A low spot that did not drain and possibly froze over the winter. If there is a crack in the cockpit scupper drain hose. This would leak because the through hull is under water and the seacock would still look dry.
