Can anybody advise where to get a cutless bearing housing for a 1984 CD 33. A phone call to Spartan turned up dry. New or used would each help,
Thanks

CD 33 cutless bearing housing

on the CD 31 the bearing is housed in a fiberglass tube that protrudes a few inches into the propeller aperture (like a nose) - if that part is damaged, the best way to repair it is to fiberglass around a new bearing and then hold the bearing in place with set screws (inserted in tapped holes in the fiberglass and then glassed over) - if the inner part of the housing is damaged, it will be harder to repair (i think it should be possible to buy the right internal diameter fiberglass tube and then glass that in place) -
is the CD33 bearing housed in a different way than i am describing?

Re: CD 33 cutless bearing housing
Our CD33 is a 1983. We have a bronze fitting that is well cemented and secured in place. Unfortunately we can't read any markings on it.Skip wrote: Can anybody advise where to get a cutless bearing housing for a 1984 CD 33. A phone call to Spartan turned up dry.
When we had some work done a few years ago, the yard felt that the fitting was too short to allow proper clamping of the hose and had an extra length added to it. That, plus the lack of similar fittings in the Spartan catalog led me to conclude that the CD33 was originally built with the fiberglass tube that other CD owners describe.
If I am right, that means searching for anything that will fit and do the job, and maybe even having something welded up to suit.
Good luck. Please keep us posted as to what you find.

Re: CD 33 cutless bearing housing
On our 1984 CD 33 our bearing is housed in a bronze housing attached to the keel. The housing is T shaped with the top of the T bolted to the keel with 2 bolts 4 inches apart and the prop shaft and cutless bearing run through the shaft of the T, much as Al has described. If the original for our model was as Len has described that encourages me that it may at least still be in production for another boat, or at least on a dusty shelf. If anyone has a possible lead, I can email a photo.

If you provide me with the shaft diameter and the inside diameter of the tube I will find you a bearing. It is that simple.
