tank vents on cd36

Post by charlie palumbo »

Hello everyone,
want to replace my corroded tank vents on cd36....had a one inch deep socket handy, but that was the wrong size for removal, seems loke the stem of the vent is too deep for the socket...anyone know
the size of the "thin" nut, and the easiest way to remove.
This board has been great in saving time with solutions to simple things that many times saves you much time when someone has done the job before............many thanks.

If they are the chrome over pot metal type, a cold chisel and

one or two whacks on the side with a hammer will pop them off. Theyre very brittle. Good bronze replacements from Spartan Marine.

Charlie,

I replaced Parfait's holding tank vent with a small bronze through-hull from the shelves of West Marine. I don't remember having a problem removing the old vent, but I am sure I did not use a cold chisel. I had to enlarge the hole a little, but it wasn't all that bad. Peggy Hall of Peal products, now owned by Raritan, recommends not using a fuel tank vent, so you might want to consider such an alternative. To quote: "The vent through-hull should not be the same type as a fuel vent through-hull (a cap with a slit in it), but should be a should be a straight open type through-hull."

See the link below for more info.
