Hauling Cost for 1/4 mile

Post by Joe L. »

I got a quote from a guy to haul my boat less than 1/4 of a mile from my yard to the ramp for $200. This seems really high to me, is this in line?

I'm a pilot, so I'm used to paying 20x more for anything that has to do with an airplane. I'm new to boating, but I'm starting to realize it's no diffrent than flying - you own a boat or a plane it's "Oh hi! Nice to meet you. Give me your wallet, drop your pants, and bend over."

Oh well, what can you do. Guess I'll be purchasing a trailer (which cost half as much as a car by the way).

Thanks for any info you have to share.

What sort of boat is it? I'd assume that moving a CD25 would be a lot cheaper and easier than moving a CD30 or larger as the CD25 is lower and smaller and lighter. When I was considering the purchase and movement of a CD25D from Rhode Island to Ohio the quotes ranged from about $3700 to $1100 with a wide variety in between. My point is that it seems that the cost of moving a boat ranges widely, and I'd be sure to try to get additional quotes. I'm like you, I try to keep the "hole in the water" as small as possible so that the amount of money I can throw into it is correspondingly small, but with boats, especially at this time of the year, that's pretty tough.
Good luck,
