Last week I bought a used anchor windlass for my CD30. It is similar to the Simpson/Lawrence model 555 manual 2 speed windlass, except it is bronze. I believe it may have been sold by ABI in years past. I am trying to determine the oil type to use. It appears to be between 90W gear oil and grease.
Any recommendations on oil type? Does anyone know what Simpson/Lawrence specifies for their manual windlasses?

Re: Anchor Windlass Oil
Olli,
I have a S-L Hyspeed 510. It uses gear oil inside the case. I think the stuff I got at West Marine is 80W, a penzoil product. There's a zerk on the end of the gypsy shaft, and S-L specifies a specific type of grease made by Shell for marine applications. I was able to find it at a local hardware store. It's not expensive. If you want to know the specific product name, eMail me and I'll look at the tube.
