Datamarine "wind machine" HELP

Post by Richard Joiner »

After being de-masted this fall(long story), repairs have finally been completed on my Intrepid 9M :-)
Unfortunately, I have run into some problems with my Datamarine wind speed and direction instrument. I beleive I purchased the last mast head unit made by Datamarine this past fall. Anyway, I hooked up the new masthead unit up to my existing display unit. The wind speed is reading correctly, but the wind direction appears to read directly opposite (180 degrees) than the true wind direction. The wires are all color coded and have been hooked up acordingly. Does anyone have any suggustions?? (Maybe a wire was reversed in the mast head unit??) HELP :-( **The phone number I have for Datamarine has been disconnected**)

Thanks,

Datamarine moved their repair facility to Mountlake Terrace, Washington. Maybe someone there can help identify the leads involved and whether reversing a pair would solve the problem. Try contacting them as follows:

SEA - DATAMARINE
7030 220th Street S.W.
Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043
Voice: (425) 771-2182 FAX: (425) 771-2650

Good luck!

if i remember right, there is a knob on the back to adjust the pointer - have you tried turning that enough to rotate the pointer 180 degrees?

good luck

Rich,

I have the same recollection as Len. I seem to remeber some words to the effect that the unit had to be initialized by orienting the masthead unit dead ahead and then setting the readout unit. Sorry to be so vague but it has been a long time since I looked at the owners manual.

Thanks for all of the input guys.
I talked to DMI (some of the old employees from Datamarine) It seems that I have to go up the mast, loosen the wind vane on the mast head unit and adjust to the reading on the display unit.

I guess I'll give it a try.

Thanks again,
