CD 25 manual and specs

Post by Diana »

Looking for a copy of an owner's manual for a CD25. The one on line has the specs for the 25D, but not the 25. Would like to get displacement/rigging specs, etc. I would be happy to pay for a copy and would be willing to post it for others to share.

We bought a 1977 CD25 three weeks ago and we are so in love with her already! Lots of work to do and this board has been great - we read it every night - thanks for all the great tips!

I'm also looking for the same manual. I purchased a CD25 several weeks ago and need the specs for the restoration.

I have a copy of a manual for the CD25. It is not the original but one from a later model. I can fax it to you if you want but it does not contain the information you are looking for. It is layed out a little different than the one on line but it has the same information.
I can tell you that my forestay measures 28 feet 8 inches, pin to pin, when installed. When I bought my CDI furler the spec sheet that the dealer had said the forestay on a 25 is 28 feet 8.5 inches.
A rigging shop may have the specs you want on file. Or you can measure the current rigging. If you get the measurements for all the rigging it would be great if you could post them for others. A few people including myself have looked for the specs but have not found them yet.

CD25 rigging measurement and a mistake I made!!

Post by JimL »

I found an old copy of a post (I'd printed it to save).
Forestay: 3/16" 1x19 28'9"
Backstay: 3/16" 1x19 31'1"
Uppers: 3/16" 1x19 28'
Lowers: 5/32" 1x19 15'

Here's the important part. Set your current rigging as close as possible to the way you like it. Then put tape on the turnbuckle threads (headstay, forward lowers, and uppers). Loosen the turnbuckles to drop the rig, then reposition to the tape and lock them.

Your rigger will build the stays so that the length you give him will have open turnbuckles at about the middle of their available adjustment range. You'll have plenty of tune-ability on your individual boat.

I screwed up and didn't mark them, so my headstay came back approximately 1 1/2" too long. It works, but with my rig set, I only have about 1/2" more room for tightening the headstay. After that, I have to use the backstay adjustment and reset the lowers, which would mean a small amount of rake (I don't want). Next fall I'll pull the boat for service, and get that headstay shortened! DO NOT make my mistake!!

Maybe we should all pool our bits of knowledge and develop our own table of specs. Elsewhere on this board there is a posting about riging measurements. Yesterday, in the snail mail, I received a catalog for sails that give the measurements for the mainsail of the CD25: luff 24'; leach 26.25'; foot 11.0'. I would want to verify these numbers with my existing sail, but, hey it is a start. The website URL for 'The Sail Warehouse' is shown below.

Great idea, Brad! Here's my contribution and it has sail specs for just about ANY boat you can think of - just chase them down alphabetically.
