Drive shaft flange

Post by Gene A. Camargo »

I recently sheared off the bolts connecting the drive flange to the drive shaft coupling, all due to a sheet getting caught in the prop. I am going to add a flexible coupling spacer to dampen vibration and shock to the engine. Does anyonme know the flange diameter of the MD7a Volvo engine offhand. The boat is about 3 hours away from home and I'd like to order the coupling this week.

Thanks,

GAC

Be sure to measure the extra thickness of the spacer and contemplate what extending the shaft and prop will do to prop clearance. I had to abort the same installation on a Globe drive saver on my CD-27 because the prop would have bit into the rudder when it was fully deflected. Fortunately I was on poppets and could test this. http://www.globerubberworks.com/. They were able to tell me which product fit my 2GM.

Remedy would have been to pull the shaft and have it shortened, re-install the flange, maybe packing, etc. so I put it off until the fall.
