Hello, I'm getting ready for a summer of fun on my family's Cape Dory 22, and need to tune her up as best I can.
Does anyone have a good source of rig tuning specs for CD22(D) and/or 25 (for a friend)?
Also, I've been having weatherhelm problems with the 22, when loaded in 12+ knots of breeze. Anybody else experience this? Could it be due to the full-batton main the previous owner rigged her with?
Thanks!

Mike:
I doubt that the full batten main is contributing to your weather helm problems. If anything, new sails help reduce weather helm.
I find that somewhere around twelve knots of wind is reef time in my 25D, which reduces weather helm dramatically.
You can find lots of comments on weather helm and on rig tension by searching the archives of this website. Give it a try, I think you'll find it helpful.

Re: CD 22 Rig Tension
It sounds like the center of effort of the sails are to far aft. Try raking the mast foward.Look at the rake of the mast from the side or use the main halyard as a plum bob and measure where it is now and what you change it to so that you can keep track of where you stand.mike wrote: Hello, I'm getting ready for a summer of fun on my family's Cape Dory 22, and need to tune her up as best I can.
