Galley Pump Replacement ??'s (25D)

Post by Bill »

Hello to all

Well the discontinued Whale Galley pump (not a Par Topesider) aboard Rhapsody gave up the ghost.....I have talked with Whale and they stated that there are no kits available....All that is left to do is go to the hardware store and look to see if the little cups (o-rings) can be had....OR replace it....

The problem is finding a pump with a trim "foot print" large enouch to cover the old pumps foot print......I am considering using a Whale foot pump and using teak or some kind of faux marble to cover the hole and then just install a spiget (sp).

Has anyone replaced this whale pump and if so with what?????

Thanks and fair winds

Bill, I just bought kits for the Whale Mk II galley foot pump last week. They were special ordered; bought two to avoid problem in the future. I'll check on further availability through my source, if you wish. Yours may in fact be a later pump; I'm told the Mk II went out of production in 1984.

Oh, yeah. That may be like the pump in the head on our boat. I had to replace mine; used the Fynspray. I had to make a cover for the extra large hole, but it works nicely. Good luck.

I replaced the hand pump with a whale foot pump on my 25D. One of the better modifications I have made to my boat. I installed a new brass spigot over a brass plate to cover the footprint of the old faucet.

Look at the Fynspray Pumps

Post by Lou Ostendorff »

Hi Bill and Others;
Karma came with a bronze & brass Fynspray lever pump. You can order them from West Marine, #190611, pg. 492...at $120 each, it's a little pricey, but the unit is efficient, elegant, and bulletproof. I've seen other handpumps at the galley sink that appear to work well, also. On the same referenced page, there are some cheaper Fynspray models you might want to consider...these pumps come from New Zealand and are well made. I don't think this was the original pump on the boat however...probably an 'upgrade' from a previous owner...Good Luck!
