Proud new owner of a CD 25!

Post by Dave Cristini »

I've had my eye on owning a Cape Dory for years, and finally got a chance to own one! She's a 1977, Orion, from Westport Cove - Mass. Orion, soon to be rechristened as Wings, needs some work but gelcoat/topsides look to be in great shape! Can't wait to clean that teak and buff up the sides. I'm moving up in the world from my 1963 Pearson Resolute (daysailer).

Only problem is, I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a home for Wings - in the Fairfield, CT area. I guess I have some time though, with all of that brightwork to do!

Dave,

Congratulations!!!!!!

I have Macht Nichts CD 30 MK II and keep her at a dock at Cove Marina in Norwalk. It is nearly impossible to find space around. If your interested in Cove, Call Cathy, and get yourself on the list. You might get lucky with a smaller boat. Otherwise I've heard that there are places in Bridgeport, check Captains Cove, really not to bad for Bridgeport. I imagine the list for Fairfield is long. Of course ther's always the Pequot Yacht Club in Southport if that's not to highbrow for ya :-)

Dave:

Look into Wilson Cove Marina in Norwalk (on the Rowayton line near Norwalk Yacht Club) They have a sign saying that they are have space available. I am not sure if they are a member "club" or not, but worth a shot. Also I'm a member of rowayton yacht Club, which is member owned. If you head down to Wilson Cove we are right around the corner. One last thought is Black Rock Yacht Club.

Regardless, the boat looks great and enjoy sailing the sound!

Congrats to you , looks like fine boat . I can't help you with a place to put her unless you want to come up to Oswego Harbor on Lake Ontairo , lots of room here and I just happen to have an extra bouy .
Good luck with her .

Dave,

Looks like you've got a beauty - congrats! I'm sure WINGS will provide you with many great years and many great adventures.

I'd also like to welcome you to join in the CD25 rendezvous this summer. There are many sailors coming from the Conn/RI area you could team up with if you'd like.

Congrats!

Dave,
I looked at the boat you bought about 3 years ago. We found another CD25 1976 and have been very happy with it. We moved up from a Macgregor 21 and what an improvement the CD25 is. Good luck and check out if your cabin bulkheads are loose, if the gate valves have been replaced with real seacocks, and if the rudder is good and tight. The rudder can delaminate off the rudder shaft, we haven't had the problem but others have.

Welcome Dave !

If you are looking for moorings only and would like to join a real "down to earth" Yacht club with lots of "regular" guys you might want to look at the New Haven Yacht club. We have a club cottage (located on Morris Cove near light house park), dock and free launch service.. no frills and the price is right.. around $400.00 initial membership, $400.00 annual dues, and I moor my CD25 on a 200lb mooring for $430.00. Lots of club activities picnics and racing/crusing events. Email me if your interested and I'll be glad to show you around.
