Information on sailing from Fl. Keys to Cuba
Does anyone have any experience, insight or suggested reading on sailing from the Florida Keys to Cuba and back?
Thank you.

I think you've missed the point. I would be more concerned with how to get from Lincoln, Nebraska to the Florida Keys!
Good luck!

Re: Information on sailing from Fl. Keys to Cuba
Some friends have raced there in one of the Tampa to Cuba races; I'll ask if they know good resources for information. If it doesn't work out, come on back our way. I hear the sun may actually shine this time.

Paul:
That actually is the point. If you have ever spent a winter up north, there is plenty of motivation to go to the Keys.

Re: Information on sailing from Fl. Keys to Cuba
Sailnet.com has some good articles, and one with very detailed info with legal comments about going to Cuba. Also, I may have an e-mail address of some people on the way to Cuba, but they only e-mail me from libraries. They left from Lake Mich in October & went down the river & Tom Bigbee to Mobile,Al. to Ft Myers in my ex- 26 ft. Westerly centaur. Their goal is Cuba.(search the Sailnet articles & you will see the answer to your question).

Nigel Calder has authored "Cuba - A Cruising Guide" based on his one year sojourn in those waters in the mid 90s as a liveaboard with his family. It can be found at www.abebooks.com. 1997, ISBN: 0-85288-670-6. The publisher is Imray, Laurie, Norie & Wilson.

Re: Information on sailing from Fl. Keys to Cuba
John,
I have been there a couple times. Once with the Havana Cup Regatta and once ten years prior having been arrested by the Cuban Aduane (customs) on the way to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. We were accused of being in Cuban waters which was not the case. We were inocent of course, just victims of political bad timing. The customs story had a happy ending but is best told over a beer. Give me a call or drop me an e-mail with Q´s and I will be happy to fill in the blanks. Its a great place, and best visited now, while there is law and order. I was impressed by the degree of professionalism and respect domonstrated by all of the officials that I met. The people are very friendly and very happy to see you.
good luck,
