Bunk lights

Post by Boyd »

Hi Board...

One of the Aquasignal brass bunk lights has broken. Its the switch mechanism. I want to find an exact replacement however Aquasignal doesnt have much of a customer service department. Its all in German. West marine has another line which doesnt look much like it. I really dont want one odd light. Anyone else faced this one?

Boyd,

First, go to www.aquasignal.de. That is there main website. Then click on the british flag in the upper left hand corner of your screen. That will magically turn it into English! Look in 12/24v lights under cabin lights and viola, your lamp will appear! I believe the part number you are looking for is 90200344.

Now, to replace it. First, remove the small turret nut that is around the push button. Next, slide the back "dome" of the lamp off. You will be looking at the switch. Next, remove the screws that hold the socket in the shade from the front. This will allow you to remove the plate that retains the switch. Keep an image in your head of how you remove these parts and how they should go back together! Actually where your lamp showed up on the site, there is a small diagram of what I am talking about. Reassemble with the new switch, and you are done!!!!

Hey, here's an idea! Since you have the light all apart anyway, why not refinish it? I have completely disassembled ALL six (6) of the cabin lights on Hanalei and refinished them. They look like new. So, continue to completely dissamble the light. You will end up with 7 brass pieces. I used paint stripper on all parts to remove the lacquer before buffing them on a buffing wheel. Be careful with stripper around the interior of the shade, it WILL remove the white paint!!! Once all parts are as shiney as you want, by a can of spray lacquer and coat all parts TWICE! Reassemble and you are done. If corrosion is extreme, you may need to use a cup brush chucked in a drill press running at high speed to remove the corrosion, polish and buff as above! Another thing, the swivel at the bulkhead mount moves, secure its mounting nut with red threadlock. The nut on the other part of the swivel does NOT move, secure the nut again with red threadlock.

Hope this helps, all it takes is time......your servant Sir, I remain.....

Ah ha! The pirate Stump is at it again only this time he is getting the competition to waste their own time away for unimportant tasks like polishing interior bronze, while he works on all the go fast ideas he can dredge up.

It sure is hard to keep up with Capt. Stump.

Boyd,

I stopped at Spicer's Marina Store in Noank, CT on the way to the boat this morning. I asked if they had a AquaSignal catalog, they did, and the price for the whole light is $100.00 list, and $80.00 from Spicers. She didn't have the price for just the switch alone, but it is available.

Thanks a lot... found the stuff on aquasignals site just like you said. I repolished all the round dome type lights a couple of years ago and they look great. May do these also. I am going to try and get West Marine to order a couple of switches for me.... If that fails I will try Spicer's...

Thanks again..
