Re: Duhhh, I knew that, but....
Leo,
I just went prompt stupid, you know, like prompt critical ! ! ! Thinking of adding mains'l traveler car controllers to Hanalei, but just talked to Kim, and we are looking at about $400.00!! New car with single sheaves, and track mounted controllers with cam cleats... Maybe some other time, but I could use the lack of 'em as an excuse when......

i changed the mainsheet traveller as you describe, and it is one of the best things i've done - with a 3:1 system I can adjust the traveller without luffing the main under all conditions - it's pricey but worth it

Have you looked at Harken?
Dave;
Have you considered Harken? They have kits and the track is hole for hole compatable with the Schaeffer track (that's what I have). The mid-range kit which should work for a thirty is about $350 with all but the control lines. Just had my system changed by Sound Rigging for $450(turn key including line and remounting of mainsheet block on new car).
IMHO Rig-Rite isn't the best.

I too replaced my original pin stop traveler with a Harken System last year. I got a 4 ft track and I picked the hardware for the type of mid range system I wanted and installed it on 2 pieces of teak. Its a 3:1 system and so far I'm very happy with it. Harken has got an awful lot of variables so you can pretty much design you own system. As Don said, I think my new traveler (for a CD27) came to about $350 and I got the stuff from pyacht.com. Its worth considering.

I went looking two years ago, and never found a thing on Nico-Fico, web or otherwise.
Check with your sailmaker; Harken often runs discount sales thru them about this time of year that I do not see in the marine stores.
By the way, Schaeffer makes mostly the same stuff, and in my opinion it looks better on our boats then Harken.

Re: Does Nicro Fico have a....
mine is a schaefer and i agree with you re looks, also fits with all the other schaefer blocks on the deck etc
Re: Does Nicro Fico have a....
I priced the same stuff for my CD33 at Rig-rite--Schaeffer, though. All I wanted was to use the same track to save the trouble of laying down new Harkin.
Goodness gracious, you would think I was trying to buy titanium exposed torlon bearing go fast racer-boy stuff for what they were trying to charge. The Schaeffer stuff I wanted is antique and not nearly as good as what is available now for a fraction of the cost.
I rant.

Re: Does Nicro Fico have a....
I am in the process of installing the Schafer bridge deck windward sheeting system on my boat. The thing cost a little more than a 1000.00 (i think-i rapidly destroy the evidence to avoid detection by my wonderful and very indulgent wife) the the 1.5 track from Cyber-marine.com. It required a special order but Rob still beats defender, west, boat US. I had tried to get parts, traveler car and sheeves, to modify the existing track but this was fruitless and just ended up wasting money.

Many marine stores/chandleries carry Nicro Fico systems. If they don't have it in stock, they can order it. It may be easier to order the equipment from your local chandler rather than dealing with Rig-Rite directly.

Re: Thank you, Captain Sir ! !
Captain Monaghan,
I spoke Rig-Rite the afternoon this. It will cost about $400.00! ! !
Maybe, I can flog the crew to get THEM to trim the sails more effectively! Dam*&, and can't I spend all these Spanish dubloons for a more required need ! !? ? (Grog)

Line controls are worth it...
Dave,
The addition of line controls to the traveller, or replacing it with a totally new system with line controls, is definitely worth the expense. Hanalei will be a much safer and easier to control yacht with this setup. I think you should bite the bullet and spring for the upgrade.
