I've been asked to let people know if I ever get to the East Coast again, so here 'tis.
My wife has expressed a yen to see L.L. Bean and the other discount stores in Freeport, Maine. We plan to be up there on Tuesday, March 26. This will leave me with a few free hours in the middle of the day. Now, according to my handy map, Freeport is a short drive from <a href="http://www.robinhoodmarinecenter.com/">Robinhood, Maine</a>, so maybe I can figure out a better way to kill time than walking around malls with arms full of packages. The web site says there's an Osprey's Restaurant at the marina - anyone ever eaten there? Food any good?
I'll also be in New York for a few days before and after the weekend of March 30-31. Probably busy with family most of that, but may have some free time.
Every time I see the Osprey advertised I wish I was there. Several years ago I took my (then) teenage son to Maine to visit places he's heard me talk about, Robinhood included. The Osprey seemed new to me then, and it was EXCELLENT. If it hasn't changed, or at least is as good, you'll thoroughly enjoy it. We had lunch, and it was delicious.

Will you be driving down from Maine to New York? If so, maybe we can meet for lunch somewhere in Connecticut. There are a few of us here in CT that try to get together for lunch every couple of weeks. Maybe we call all meet somewhere. If you are looking at your map, look for I-95 and see if you will be traveling along that route. Look for areas like Milford, Stamford, Norwalk, ,,,,

Hi, Larry. Good to hear from you.
I probably will have people to see for both lunch and dinner on the drive down, but if one of them falls through I will let you know.
I know the area well. I grew up in New York and went to graduate school in Boston. I own a number of neat home accessories found in the bins at United Housewreckers in Stamford.
the Osprey is a great spot but you may want to call ahead and check on their hours this time of year. Not quite peak season around here in the Casco Bay area. A lot of restaurants in those small harbors along the coast close up for the Winter and re-open towards Memorial Day. Great place to visit if they're open but I'd call ahead.
The restaurant may be located in the town of Georgetown as far as phone information is concerned. Have fun.... Ross
There is still a restaurant called the Osprey on site at Robinhood Marine, but it is under different management (sublet to some restauranteur who also runs a cafe in Bath, I believe) and is now operating as a more informal restaurant and not the five-star gourmet affair of old. However, the chef who ran the old fancy Opsrey is now running a similar fancy place about a mile or so down the road from Robinhood (<a href=http://www.robinhood-meetinghouse.com/>The Robinhood Free Meetinghouse Restaurant</a>). According to their web page, the Meetinghouse is open for dinner Friday and Saturday nights only, this time of year.

Robinhood is about 30-40 minutes from Freeport (possibly alittle longer if you hit shift change at Bath Iron Works). If you're thinking of going there, you should probably give Dave Perry a call ahead of time - this time of year there's probably not much activity on the docks or in yard outside, but they should be working on boats inside the sheds.
On the other hand, in less than half the time it takes to get to Robinhood, you can get to my house where you will find my CD30 in the yard. I'll leave the garage open with the tools and supplies available for you to get going on my Spring project list.

Well, back to square one on lunch. The Osprey and the Meetinghouse both will be closed - Osprey doesn't open until May, according to the web page. Guess I'll have to brown bag it or look for a Dairy Queen. Or that sub shop Tony Betz emailed me about. Gee, gotta be someplace to get boiled lobsta or fried clams.
In Freeport, try the Blue Onion, or the Harraseekett(sp?) Inn.
Or beter yet, come a few days early and attend the Maine Boatbuilders Show in Portland. It starts Fri. the 22nd. If Roger has it done by then, I'll be picking up my new Bristol Bronze prop shaft at his booth. See you Friday?
