Cape Dory 14 Info?

Post by Geoff Burgess »

Hi! Just bought a CD14, that needs a lot of work, hull sitting on saw horses, sails in storage, mast, rudder all in separate places which I'm to collect this weekend. ANY Information anyone has would be greatly appreciated!
thanks

Geoff,

I have a 14 here in Raleigh. It is complete, but needing new mahogany gunwhales. I can probably help with specific questions if you have any. You are welcome to drop by and compare notes. I also have some digital photos of the rigging if you get confused by that Gunter rig.

We are listed in the book. Let me know how I can help.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the kind offer of info on the 14. Think I'm going to need it! The basic hull seems ok , with the exception of a small place on the upper starboard transom that has some give to it and some fine cracks/crazing of the gelcoat. But, the seems to be some hardware missing. The rudder and centerboard are there however the mounting hardware for the rudder is not. All the wood work was trashed so I have nothing to go by to recreate. The wife says the brochre says Mahogany seat, gunwales and trim, so I had better replace it with that! On the up side, the mast is all there, the sail seems ok just a little discolored. and I have all the centerboad hardware. Will have to sign up for West Marine catologue, not to mention find a source round here for Mahogany! Will go out today and take picts and figure a way to post generaly to the MB about the project. Might have to set up a web site, (sigh, do that work). Anyway will keep in touch !
Cheers!
