I just purchased a CD30C and want to buy a good roller furling/reefing system. I am interested in what other CD30C owners are using and would like recommendations, pros and cons, prices and any other advice or suggestions.
Someone suggested a Schaefer system but I'm having trouble finding info on their complete product line. Your help is much appreciated.

Congratulations on your new boat! We also have a 30 which we plan to put roller furling/reefing on. I plan to use a ProFurl R 25. I have used the 32 on a 28 with a 155%, and it performed beautifully. The 25 is at the recommendation of a rigger whom we respect, and is based on the assumption we'll continue with the cutter rig and a yankee, or something not much larger. I think West Marine has a catalog available in their stores on the Schaefer products, FWIW. Good luck.

Congrats on the fine boat! On my CD-30 I am quite happy with the Furlex. The only reason I chose it over ProFurl was that my Neil Pryde dealer was also a Furlex dealer, and gave me a package deal on a suit of new sails and the furler. Most world cruisers use ProFurl, Harken, or Furlex.

If you're considering installing yourself, try looking at www.riggingonly.com For my Ty, I just purchased a CDI FF1 with the roller bearing option for much less than anyone else could offer for it without the bearings.

Good luck,

Sailnet.com has a 10% off coupon on all roller furlings. Pyacht.net,inc has good info with all prices. Profurl has a web site. I just bought a Profurl NC32. It seemed easier to install than Schaefer, and had about the same praises by users.

We have a C33 sloop and put a Profurl on it and have been pleased with it. However, I think that I would go with Furlex next time. It is simply a smoother furler, and comes with a new forestay (We did replace ours anyway). I think that the Furlex design is perhaps a little more high-tech, for what that is worth, but is just smoother and more free-turning.
