We are constructing new setees for the CD27 we are rebuilding. Should we do the backrests with the upholstery permently attached, loose cushions or....? Appreciate ideas and experiences.

Jim, I prefer the loose cushion concept. That way you can romove them during times when cleaning or airing out is desired. May want to consider Velcro to attach the cushions to the sidewalls. I think that is particularly helpful in rough seas.

Velcro - and a question.
Loose cushions with loop velcro sewn to the cushion backs, and hook stapled/glued to the settee back works great for us - the cushions stay put, but can be removed for winter storage and for access to the storage area behind the settee.
Jim - do you have a water or waste tank under the port settee? I am looking to add a holding tank to my CD27 and I am trying to figure out the biggest Kracor tank that will fit there.

Jim,
I recommend adding a couple of retainer lines (basically vertical shock cords with a small shackle) for rough weather sailing.

Re: Opinions wanted, setee backrest
Jim,
The cushions are designed such that they are used for fill in on the port side settee when it is pulled out for double berth application. Thus, if you want to maintain that capability they will need to be loose. That being said, I have never been satisified with the sloppy look of the seat back, so I am preparing to have mine modified so that the cushion has a solid back that can be hung on the existing backrest allowing it to be better held in place.
