The bottom paint on DULCINEA has a flaking problem. We purchased the boat in November. She had a new barrior coat (several coats). The surveyor stated that when the first coat of bottom paint was applied, the window for applying it had been missed (the barrior coat had dried too long). Any suggestions for reducing the flaking problem. Except for the flaking problem the barrior coat seems to have been done in an excellent manner.

Re: Flaking bottom paint
Hi Bill...
I put a barrier coat on Tern last year and in the instructions there was a proceedure for bottom painting if the window was missed. You can check with the Interlux site for instructions. Basically it involves sanding and cleaning. Not an easy fix. The interlux barrier coat sands pretty easy. You may want to put another layer of barrier coat on the old one. Its important to find out which brand of barrier coat was used. I would think its a bad idea to mix them. All the bottom paint has to come off.
I found a guy here in Fort Lauderdale who soda blasts boats. He can remove bottom paint and not touch the barrier coat. Very gentle process. I used him when I took the bottom paint off of Tern.
I dont know of an easy fix at this point.
