Deleware River Tidal Flows
Hi All,
The Fast Sloop 'Evening Light' plans on departing Riverside, NJ (between Philly and Trenton) for it's delivery voyage to her new home in the New England waters on Friday, 26 April.
Due to the 15 hours of motoring to Cape May, the previous owner has mentioned coordinating our departure with the Delaware river tidal flow. I looked at Eldridge's without gleaming enough info to really plan this out.
Would anyone have a website or other source for Delaware river Tides and flows?
Fair Winds,
Leo

Leo,
If you need any help in sailing a "fast sloop", I have some experience in that field. I know your experience has been limited to a Ketch

Leo,
Go to: http://www.harbortides.com
Once there select Delaware from the State dropdown list, then click on Go.
Select Delaware River from the list.
The resulting 11 hits are all tide stations for the Delaware. Click on any one of them to get the tide info for that station. It will display the info for the current month by default. If you want to see the info for April, just select April 2002 from the dropdown list, then click on Go.

Fast Sloop Advice

Dread of the NE CD-36's?????
Captain MacDonald,
What self proclaimed moniker is this, "dread of the NE CD-36"s"??? Have I missed something??? We all know Journey's End is the scourge of the NE Fleet and the True #1. Your presumption sir shall earn you the new title, Chicken Legs II!

Whoa!
Captain Thorpe:
My humble respect goes to Journey's End as a super sailing vessel. She may well be the scourge of the NE Fleet but the fastest CD in the regatta now lies on the hard in Mystic, CT waiting for her spring launch. The ghosts of New England's northern bay clippers and sloops will see the tall mast of Mokita in the setting sun before any other vessel in the fleet. She awaits the boarding of "sailors of the deep" in her victory sprint to the finish line and looks forward to becoming the welcoming yacht to all other racers in the CDSOA Fleet.
Most respectfully yours,
Ed Haley

Try this site: http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/sitesel.html
It will graphically depict what you are looking for and gives you a lot of choices.
Dennis's looks good also as well as Catherine's.
Fair winds to you Sir, don't forget the bottle of Champagne!

Re: Deleware River Tidal Flows
Currents [which you are interested in because of the drastic effect on passage time in the Delaware]can be found on the following link. http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/sites_all ... phacurrent You have to scroll down the list which is in alphabetical order to find Philadelphia and the Entrance to Delaware Bay. See if there is a listing for way points further down such as Mia Maul or 14 Foot Bank. The time differentials are interesting. If you play your cards right you can get the boost nearly all the way down. Have a great trip.Leo MacDonald CD33 wrote: Hi All,

Captain Haley,
My deepest respect to you and the s/v Mokita. Your enthusiasm, wishfullness and aspirations to be #1 are commendable charecteristics and contribute greatly to my wish for summer to arrive. I look forward to the challenge and only wish that CL II (Chicken Legs II) had seen fit to respond. However, Leo has seen my stern disapear over the horizon into the twilight only to glimpse it again as Journey's End swung on her mooring awaiting her next challenge. Leo knows, his silence is deafening, and you to sir shall have the opportunity.

Re: Deleware River Tidal Flows
I have wintered in this area for the last few years. In fact I think I have seen your boat on the hard at Riverside Marina if I am not mistaken.Leo MacDonald CD33 wrote: Hi All,

Each year I ride down the river to Cape May bound Downeast. What we do is leave Riverside at high water and take the ebb down to just below the C&D Canal. There is an anchorage on the west side just below the entrance to the Canal called Reedy Island Dike. You can cross into the anchorage at the small daymarks on the jettys, which may be a little hard to see from a distance. Don't worry, it looks narrow but there is plenty of water between the marks. Then next day we take the ebb on down to Cape May. From there you can continue over to Block Island directly, or on up the coast.
I don't know what the former owner told you about this stretch of the Delaware River. I have been running it for over 30 years. If you have never run it before, I don't think you will be happy trying to do so your first time at night or in the dark. Most people like to make a 2 day ride out of this stretch.
If you need more info, send e-mail. I can easily mail you a few tested routes that run in The Capn if there any interest in that sort of thing.
