Replacement Tillerpilot/GPS

Post by Brian Johnson »

Hello all,
I am looking for a replacement tillerpilot. My boat, a CD 26D, originally had a tillerpilot TP 5000 which was stolen last summer. I am looking at replacements and wondered if anyone had any opinions. I originally wanted to put in an identical Navico unit to avoid drilling a second hole in the locker for mounting. Unfortunately, I realized that Navico had been purchased by SIMRAD and the TP 5000 is no longer in production. The possible replacements include the Autohelm 1000 and 2000 as well as the SIMRAD TP 20. If anyone has any experience with these models, I would be interested in your feedback. Our GPS was also stolen and I will be replacing that shortly as well. I don't have a wind instrument, but someday I might. I will probably replace the GPS with a Garmin fixed mount-potentially the 180. Any feedback here would also be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance
Brian

i have had dealings with simrad in florida (for a couple of navico wheelpilots) both for sales and repairs and they have been helpful, prompt, and reasonably priced
