Help!! My bank manager wants to know as soon as possible whether my CD30 Dayspring is still actually currently registered in the US. I know the hull has number 875883 on it in large black numbers. Can anyone tell me how to find out on the web??

If your boat is not Documented that number probably represensts some state registration. Most state reg. numbers usually have some letters either preceding or following the number. I'm sure you can access this on the net but I do not have the site info. You might try USCG for furthur info. The Canadian registration system is different, but I don't have any info on exactly how they work.

I just did a quick search of the site: uscg.mil/services and could't find a reference to Dayspring or to the number painted on you hull. I would think that if you haven't renewed the Documentation in many years, it has probably disappeared. You would have received a letter from the USCG asking if you wanted to continue being Documented.I suspect Sir, that you are truly a FOREIGN vessel........sorry....I remain Sir, Your most HUMBLE servant...........

you may not realize that vessels here can either be registered with the federal government through USCG documentation, which has to be renewed annually, or through whatever state government the vessel is in (which also has to be renewed regularly) - if your CD has been in New Zealand for years, it is extremely unlikely that it is still registered anywhere here

As I understand it, U.S.C.G. documentation is not transferable, and is only available to U.S. citizens. So if Dayspring is currently registered, you would have had to have done it, which presumably you would recall. If there was a previous owner who documented her, that lapsed with the transfer of ownership. If you are a Kiwi as opposed to a U.S. citizen, then again, there is no current documentation.

Did you know Sir, that you can obtain a 6 months cruising pass to allow you to enter any U.S. Port(after clearing through the first one) without going through the Customs hassle? I noticed it in the pre-amble to the latest U.S. Coast Pilot.
