Well, I guess I've waited too long to get to work on my brightwork. Now I have a moderate amount of flaking of the varnished (cetol) surface with some exposed teak showing through in places. I really don't want to take the teak down to the raw wood all over, can I just sand off the loose material, rough up the good surface and reapply cetol? How sensitive is cetol to direct sunlight. Here in North Texas it's hot as hades and I'd really like to postpone the work until the fall when it cools off a little. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Brightwork
Mike,
I did exactly what you are talking of two weeks ago. I did pick the only cloudy day and started early. I sanded the flaking Cetol and scraped it a little with a pocket knife. Then light sanded all of the other. I wiped it all down then applied a coat of Cetol. It worked really well but I had to do a couple of coats to the raw sections. It did drag a little at the end when the day warmed some. It does look good though and had a lot of nice dockside comments. I am going to reapply after the season is over with to keep from having to deal with the same thing next year.
