Well, I'm thinking of moving up to a boat that more closely resembles my age. Just wondering if anyone has strong opinions comparing these two boats. As an Typhoon owner I am a big fan of Carl's. But Bill Luders worked with him at Alden and they had similar goals as designers. I was interested in the comparing the construction and sailing differences of the two. Thanks to all.

Luders 33 ?
Allied built it in the 60's or early 70's. CCA boat, optimized for speed.
Seen a Vanguard? I think Phillip Rhodes did this sort of boat better then either Carl or Bill.

Re: Luders 33 ?
I'll 2nd (or 3) the Allied Luders as a fine boat as is the vanguard. The only difference between them & the Cape Dorys is the little things that change over the years, like refigerator colors. Those older interiors had a lot of formica. Sail one a few hundered miles off shore & you wouldn't know the difference. I sailed a vanguard (friends who stayed ashore) across the gulf of mexico in high 40 winds & was quite comfortable except for the leak over my bunk. Those old guys who designed the modern fiberglass boat were taking designs that were proven on wooden boats.Bill Bloxham wrote: Allied built it in the 60's or early 70's. Re: Sea Sprite 34/CD 33
Realize that the Seasprite 34 is factory made and finished, while the Luders 33 is the same boat essentially, but the interior was sold as a kit to be finished by the buyer. The quality should, of course, be suspect immediately, until proven otherwise.
