I've reached the end of my wick!

I've reached the end of my wick!
Will all this talk about oil lamps, it reminded me that the last time I used mine the wick was pretty much spent. The catalogs have oil but don't seem to have an item # for just the wick. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding a source for replacement oil lamp wicks? (My local hardware store thought I had dropped in from the 19th century when I asked last fall!).

Re: I've reached the end of my wick!
Lowes hardware has them. I also bet you could find them on line if you did a Google search.

Re:For which lamp? ? ?
Captain Goldsmith,
If it's for the W&P lamp we have been discussing, Boaters' World has them. I just walked in one day, and they had them hanging on a board. Not cheap though, if I remember right, $8.00 for three!

Now you're asking tough questions!!!
Capt. Stump,
Good question. Silly me. I don't know the manufacturer and model offhand. That would be basic information I'd need to get a replacement! The lamp was there when I bought the boat and I've never noticed the manufacturer's name or measured the width of the wick (it's definitely a flat woven type--that much I do know). I could either 1) go to the boat this weekend, climb up the ladder, climb under the cover, go down below and take a look, all in 30 degree weather, or 2) wait for March when the cover comes off. We haven't even had enough rain or other precipitation to warrant a bilge "security check" at this point. I think I'll put the wick investigation on my Spring to do list.
Thanks
Bill

Check out the link below for rolls of wick material at 75 cents a foot or so.

Re: I've reached the end of my wick!
I use a piece of fiberglass braided cord, sold in hardware stores for insulating small slits, doors, windows, etc. It looks and feels just like cotton line but it NEVER burns down and NEVER needs replacement! But the capillary action which draws the oil up the wick is the same as for cotton.
